Verified August 9, 2026. Nintendo pages disagree by region: Singapore, Hong Kong, and UK material describe the August Ver. 2.0 release, while some US storefront and support pages still show August scheduling or October 31 metadata. Check the software version and DLC status on the account and console being used.
Complete the official prerequisites first
Bubbly Basin is Expansion Pass Part 1 content, not an area unlocked by the base game alone. Nintendo separates the free Ver. 2.0 feature update from the paid area: the update adds Dive-related functionality, while access to the Bubbly Basin story and location requires the paid content. Confirm both the game version and downloadable-content status on the same account and primary console you are using.
- Finish the Bleak Beach Important Request named “Raise the environment level!”
- Have Surf and enough jumping ability to meet the condition for learning Dive.
- Learn Dive, then follow the objective toward the underwater gate.
Follow the reported in-game quest sequence
Nintendo does not publish a complete button-by-button quest walkthrough on the pages reviewed here. Multiple current player reports describe this route: after updating, talk to Tangrowth at Bleak Beach; travel to the new island; speak with Manaphy; collect five seaweed as requested; and learn Dive. Return toward the Pokémon Center and speak with Popplio, then bring Popplio to the underwater gate.
Use the active quest marker rather than a fixed written compass direction. Community descriptions of the exact approach and landmark differ, while the objective marker reflects the player’s current stage. If Popplio is present but the gate does not react, one player report says pressing up on the D-pad put Popplio into the following state needed at the door. That is a community workaround, not an official control requirement.
If the quest or gate does not appear
Open the HOME menu, highlight the game, use the software options, and check for an update. Then inspect the in-game or system DLC status and restart the software after a completed download. In a current community FAQ thread, a player who owned the pass, had Dive, and reached the gate resolved missing access after checking the DLC icon, downloading the content, and restarting. Nintendo’s own support page likewise directs players with inaccessible DLC to verify the purchase account, download status, and console setup.
Do not confuse “I learned Dive” with “the paid location is installed.” The free update and the expansion entitlement are separate checks. Also confirm that the Bleak Beach request was completed on the current save, because owning the pass does not bypass the story prerequisite.
Account for the regional release conflict
Official regional pages are not synchronized as of August 9, 2026. Nintendo Singapore and Hong Kong describe Ver. 2.0 and Bubbly Basin as available from August 5, and UK material describes an August release. Nintendo of America support uses “scheduled for August 2026,” while individual DLC storefront metadata in some regions displays October 31, 2026; the US update-history page reviewed during verification had not yet listed Ver. 2.0.
That conflict means a successful community route cannot prove access should exist for every US account at the same moment. Check the store listing and software version attached to your own account region. If the content is not offered there yet, quest troubleshooting cannot unlock an unreleased regional entitlement.
